The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry donates R10 000.00 to
St. Francis Care Centre

Date : 16 September 2008

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIJ) will supply the St. Francis Care Centre with a grant of up to R10 000.00. This grant will enable the St. Francis Care Centre to purchase equipment for the promotion of health care facilities.

The Hand-over Ceremony will take place at the St. Francis Care Centre in the Republic of South Africa on Monday, 22 September 2008 at 10h00, and will be attended by Mr. Gondo, President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIJ) and Mr. Miyashita, Minister of the Embassy of Japan.

The St. Francis Care Centre was founded in 1992 by Fr Stan Brennan OFM, a priest that was deeply affected by the neglect and ostracisation of people affected with HIV Aids. The St. Francis Care Centre offers medical, emotional and spiritual care for their patients; they endeavour to nurse patients back to health utilising a successful ARV programme.

The St. Francis Care Centre has a historical connection to Japan as a Japanese Franciscan Priest, Father Nicholas Nemoto, assisted the Care Centre. Not only did he help and counsel the patients spiritually, but also used his personal massage skills to relieve their pain.  Due to Fr Nemoto’s involvement to this Care Centre, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry desires to assist this centre in order to continue the work that was done by Fr Nemoto.
