Japan extends financial assistance of US$ 95, 473 to the first public- private partnership project in South Africa with the handover ceremony taking place at Maboloka on 17 December 2008.

The Government of Japan, through its Grants Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme will extend its financial assistance to the community based organisations, Maboloka HIV/ AIDS Awareness Organisation (MAHAAO) and Molelwaneng Primary School respectively, in Association with Hernic Ferrochrome (Pty) Ltd., in the amount of US$ 95, 473 (R 732, 775.25)

Hernic Ferrochrome has rendered significant contributions to the local community as a part of its corporate social responsibility programmes. The Government of Japan is proud to join this effort to community development by engaging in a Public- Private Partnership Project. The Government of Japan will provide an ambulance to MAHAAO in order to enhance service delivery to HIV/ AIDS patients and also construct a dining hall for Molelwaneng Primary School to enhance the school environment. 

The handover ceremony to MAHAAO will take place on December 17, 2008 with the attendance of His Excellency Mr. Toshiro Ozawa, Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Kazuo Korenaga, Senior Vice President, CRO for Africa, Mitsubishi Corporation and Mr. Isaac Mmelene, Managing Director, MAHAAO (See the attached sheet for details)

The Government of Japan intends to continue such partnership with the Japanese private sector to enhance basic human needs- related service delivery in South Africa, which would also lead to building a more investment- friendly environment.
