Joint missions promoting trade and investment to Africa

Joint Missions promoting trade and investment to Africa will visit South Africa from the 6 - 9 September 2008. The Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Yasuo FUKUDA pledged this mission at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TIICAD IV) that was held in May this year.

This Mission is comprised of members of the economic and political circles, Ministries and Governmental institutions, which will be lead by Mr. Takamori Yoshikawa, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

The Missions’ duties will consist of the collection of information, finding common points of interest concerning trade and investment, the visiting of various facilities and forming of personal relations through talks with leading persons in South Africa, including Deputy President Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. In addition, opinions will be exchanged with other local Chambers of Commerce and Industries and with various enterprises.

The Missions’ aim is to further develop the relationship between Japan and South Africa through trade and investment in order to contribute to the acceleration of the growth of the African Economy as discussed in TICAD IV, and further promote Japan’s resource diplomacy.
