MEXT Scholarship:Japanese Government Scholarship (Research Students, Undergraduate Students and Specialized Training College Students and Teacher Training Students)

MEXT 2023 applications are OPEN (ONLY for Teacher Training Students)

The MEXT(Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2023.

Please Note Deadline: 10th February, 2023 (must have arrived at Embassy of Japan)

Research Students (For South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho) (Applications Closed)

You must be under 35 years of age (born on or after April 2, 1988) and a college graduate (includes prospective graduates) and have completed at least 16 years of schooling.

Undergraduate Students (South Africa Only) (Applications Closed)

You must be under 25 years of age (born on or after April 2, 1998) and have completed 12 years of school education or have completed courses in a school comparable to a high school (includes prospective graduates).

Specialized Training College Students (South Africa Only) (Applications Closed)

You must be under 25 years of age (born on or after April 2, 1998) and have completed 12 years of schooling or have completed school education comparable to a Japanese high school (includes prospective graduates).

Teacher Training Students (South Africa Only) (Applications Open)

You must be under 35 years of age and a graduate of a college or teacher training college.

You must have at least five years of active experience as a teacher in a primary, secondary or teacher training college in your country.

(Please note that college and university teachers currently in active service are not considered for this scholarship).
