College Students
・Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to receive education at college or equivalent educational institutions, specialized courses of study at advanced vocational schools (Senshugakkou), educational institutions designated for preparing persons who have completed 12 years of education at schools in foreign countries to enter college, or Koto Senmongakko.
・Period of stay: 2 years or 1 year.
・Must obtain Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

Pre-College Student
・Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to receive education at high schools, high school courses of schools for the blind or of handicapped children's schools, higher or general courses of advanced vocational schools (Senshugakko), or vocational schools (Kakushugakko) (excluding the educational institution described in the College Students) or the other educational institutions which are equivalent to vocational schools in facilities and curriculum.
・Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months.

Trainee
・Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to learn and acquire the technology, skills or knowledge at public or private organisations in Japan (excluding the activities described in the College Student and Pre-college Student).
・Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months.

・Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months.
・Must obtain Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.
Dependent
・Activities authorized to engage in: Daily activities on the part of the spouse or unmarried minor child of those who stay in Japan with the status of residence mentioned in Employment or working visa or (excluding the Temporary Visitor) or of those who stay with the status of residence of College, Pre-college or Trainee.
・Period of stay: 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months.
・Applicants must either obtain a Certificate of Eligibility or read the next section (Dependent Visa) for an alternative procedure.
Dependent Visa
・Visa for a legal spouse and/or minor child(ren) to accompany a member of the family employed in Japan.
Requirements
・If the employed member of the family is still in South Africa
1)Valid passport;
2)Visa application form completed and signed;
3)One photograph – 45mm x 45mm photograph size;
4)Passport of the employed member of the family containing a valid working visa for Japan;
5)Letter of guarantee from the employer, giving full details of the accompanying family members;
・If the employed member of the family is already in Japan, first three items listed above;
1)Certificate of Alien Registration [Gaikokujin Torokuzumi Shomeisho] of the employed member of the family. This is issued by the employed member's local Town Hall or Ward Office;
2)Letter of guarantee from the employer in Japan, covering all dependents planning to go to Japan;
3)Statement from the applicant indicating the reason for joining the employed member of the family in Japan.
・All visa applications must be submitted by the applicant in person at this office.
・Period of stay: 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months.
